Default What kind of jack stands are you using?

Hey fellas, I was going to change all the fluids today (bought a new floor jack and everything) and when I jacked up the front of the car using the front center point I found out that the jack stands I had borrowed (power built 4 ton) were too tall to place under the front side jacking points. What kind of jack stands do you guys use? I had my floor jack maxed out at 15 inches and I was about 1.5inches short of being able to use the jack stand

if u jack the car up on the sides, ur stands should fit no problem and i assume ur jack stands are adjustable

Roll your car onto 2x6's before you jack it up, that will give you more clearance. This works for my Craftsman 2 1/2 ton jack stands.

I actually did roll the car onto some 2x6's and even then the limiting factor is the max height that the jack can reach. The jack stands are adjustable and from what Ive read it seems that its "preferred" to jack the car using the front and rear center points to avoid any bending of the side rails.

true, but i havent found a jack that is long or low enough to reach either of the center jacking points. there are points on the side that are reinforced. i've done mutiple oil changes, no problems here.

sounds like you need a bigger jack, something with a higher lift capacity. Any 2/2.5 ton jack stands would be fine with your car.

This floor jack will do the trick (AC DK13DLQ):

It hits both the front and rear jack points with no helpers, has a foot pedal along with the handle in case you are short of room to use the handle, and it raises to almost 29". Quality is the best in the business.

These jack stands are exceptional too:

4 ton stands are huge for this car. 2-3 ton should be more like it. Or, as others have said, a larger jack.

And for lifting a stock height car without driving onto boards, this jack works as well.

jacks stands are fairly cheap anywhere ya go. autoparts stores usually carry delco or some other brand for 20 bucks for 2. Or you can go to sears and get the same thing. 2-3 ton is overkill but will suffice.
