At what point do you need a reinforced diff?

the diffs are not all the same the way they come out of the factory
some are more well built than the others, just by chance, and may be able to take a lot more shock

Having said that, a shock is a shock. If you have a bad diff/axles and drive aggressively, your diff will break sooner. If you have a good diff then that inevitable will be slightly delayed.

I'm with Wisconsin on this. I was one of the ones who popped his diff. For me, it was trying to launch without breaking the tires. I didn't learn until I got onto S2ki that if you want a good start you have to break the tires loose. This will put the launch damage on the tires, not the diff. But of course, this discussion has been hashed and rehashed time and again.

while any type of launch will put wear on the diff, from what i've read from greater minds than my own on this forum, it is a WORSE strain on the diff if you bog a launch.

and yes, while some diffs may come able to take more than others, my point is that i think there are plenty of times where a weak diff is blamed for more of a poor driver.
