what would cause this?
one of my friends brought his 2000 honda s2000 that he just perchased to my work at the honda dealership. me and my fellow mechanics were checking out his new ride as he just got the car. we were draining the oil from the oil pan and thats when we noticed huge metal chunks/pieces if metal cruzing in the bottom of his oil pan.
you could see it through the oil pan drain hole. previously he was driving it and everything seems o.k. he did not hear any weired engine noise while running the engine. well we removed the oil pan and found both big thrust washers for the crankshaft fell out and just sitting in the oil pan. anyone ever seen this?????? never in my life wrenching did i ever see anything like this. the s2000 used to be turbocharged. but is not anymore. also the engine only has a little over 35k. i was thinking a way to aggresive clutch may cause this? a stiff clutch will put alot more stress and wear on the crank thrust washers everytime pushing in the clutch. i know for sure both thrust washers fell out because they are in the oil pan, bent to shit and crankshaft end play is way out of spec. any help or info will be greatly appreciated.

I saw the same thing on a turbo s2k . That car seized the cams . Upon further investigating it was discovered that the thrust washers had been ejected from there respected homes and into the pan they went . That car had an aftermarket clutch .... but NOT an act clutch .

bump!
You've asked a question that will need more than 30 min time before someone with a similar experience comes through to answer. It is not a common problem that is raised. Give it at least a day and bump.
Good luck...
