wheel bearing? diff? what?
MY 01
133k miles
I get this scraping noise from drivers side rear on deceleration and cruising. Acceleration, it goes away. Problem is recent. I jacked my car up and turned drivers rear wheel and heard nothing. So it is safe to say it happens on car weight. . . . On a right turn it gets loud... left turns, it seems to go away. I thought wheel bearing was going, but certain the scraping sound would happen regardless.. Answered my own question, possibly... differential issues?

you ever tighten up the axle nut? suprised your wheel bearings lasted to 133k mine only made it to 60k
my best guess is wheel bearings, jack the car up and try and wiggle the tire dont be gentile about it give it some force should get no movement.
mine were so shot I had about an 1" of play in any direction lol

One of mine were shot and had 0 play in it. The noise was bugging the crap out of me.. Checked the axle nuts, re-tightened, same problem.. After reading some articles I did a few test. Because I knew the noise was coming from the rear but couldnt spot which one. So I went to the nearest parking lot, and did some figure 8s.. AS IN DRIVING IN AN "8" SHAPE, NOT SETTING A WORLD RECORD.. What I found was the noise would stop when the wheel would have the least amount of stress on it. Like for me the driver rear bearing was shot. So when I turned right the noise was clearly heard, but when I turned left it was gone. I think thats the right order.. The inside wheel is spinning slower than the outside wheel and more weight is on the outside when you are turning correct?

Exactly! Right turns would be quite noticeable, while left turns would have little to no sound. I just changed diff fluid and had it inspected with no issues, although the sound goes away when accelerating has me confused. I thought wheel bearings would be noticeable under any form of motion.
Suppose i should replace both rear ones then.
its not a bad job to do really if you are careful and can read the helms and understand it
harbor freight 20 ton press is 150 bucks, a shop will charge you an hour of labor or around 100
I bought the press and use it for all kinda of stuff.
