When to do valve adjustments?
Just do it yourself. Its very simple, and there I dont see how you can do it wrong if you just follow the instructions. I've done it 3 times so far and I have never had a problem doing it.
This is just me, but I don't let anyone work or do anything on my car unless completely necessary (i.e. an alignment).
I know some people that have taken theirs to the dealership, spent $100 or so on the adjustment and they didnt even do them right. The people ended up doing it themselves and wasted their money. I would try to give it a shot by yourself man. If you feel like you can't do it, or cant do it right, go ahead and take it to the dealer.

If you are unfamiliar i would suggest not doing it. i consider the correct way to adjust valves to be something of practice and experience.
Many times i have had to correct issues cause by someone trying to adjust there valves. to tight andf you could create misfire, compression type issues. to loose and possibler noise, compression issues etc.
I say find someone experienced or go to the dealer. wouldnt want you to have more hassles than needed. just my $.02

It's been a while, but when I purchased my S2000 (about a year ago), I was surprised that Honda recommended 100k for the valve adjustment...
I had an integra in the past, and I believe they recommended every 30k or something like that... and the S2000 revs higher than the integra.
I guess maybe due to the difference in design?

I did my adjustment at 42k and my second at 80k and now i have 130k. Every time i did the valves they were barely out of spec.
I've done mine 2 times as well and have just shy if 130k. I think I made one small adjustment on the second check.
All of these short interval valve adjustment comments throughout this site kill me. I pass through 6k and have bounced off the rev limiter numerous times. Knowing how this engine is built, and doing a few check myself, I would agree with Honda that 100k is fine.
Why throw money away and/or take chances of breaking something that isn’t broke? I’ll never understand. I think we all need to start pulling the oil pan and checking rod clearances. We might need to start opening up the differentials to check …
If you tend to over-rev by a miss shift you best be adjusting things other the valves.
