Post When does the Spark Plug recall need to be done!

Hey guys,

I am looking into joining the s2000 community and purchasing an 00 S2k with 44K ish miles.

Now its a one owner, by someone who just drove around in it. An older gentelman. Now he seems to have kept little contact with his dealer and got most of his maint done by his local mehcanic.

He let me know that the spark plug recall was done at about 40K miles at the honda dealer. Is this something for me to be concerned about. Or if nothing has gone wrong yet its okay. Any specific things I should keep an eye out for.

What recalls are out for the 00:

1. Spark Plug
2. Seat belt
3. Tail lights
4. ??? the oil bolt ( I read the UK guys here talking about this, was this a UK only recall because I did not know of it)
5. What about the top????any recalls

again thanks...I did a search but I did not get an anwser to my question so I guess I would ask

I appreciate the help that I get from here

4. There is no recall in North America for the oil jet bolts. The European driving cycle can be pretty different from here. (Nobody gets to legally hold 125mph for hours at a time)

5. There are no Recalls covering the top. There are several service bullitens regarding proper care, and Rattles/noises.

contact your dealer and have them run vin for the spark plug recall, tailight issue is taken care of only if tailights are turning pink.seat belt from Honda are lifetime warranty due to the fact they are a safety item.
no recall on top or banjo's

The taillamps are actually a recalled part, even if they aren't pink you get new ones. There is a seperate recall on the seat belt retractors, which was on 00's. This is different from Honda's liftime seatbelt warranty.

What I meant to say is that the spark plug recall has been done but it was done at 5 years and 40K ish miles on the car. Is this something for me to be worried about as it may have caused damage.

thanks guys

No, there isn't a problem that is was done at 40k. The biggest thing is that it's done before the plugs get loose and damage the engine.

The plug recall should have been done ASAP after the notices came out. Hopefully, they caught it before the plugs backed off and did some damage. If it was done at the dealer, you will have two visible means to check yourself. One is to look at the frame number stamped on the firewall by the battery. If the plugs were done a small dot was stamped just above one of the digits in that number (it was either above the number "1" or a letter "I" - I can't remember exactly). It will be obvious because the "dot" doesn't look like it belongs there. The second way it to look in the owner's manual. There are two pages in the manual where it lists the spark plug model number. If the plugs were done, the dealer would have put on a stick on lable over the stuff printed in the manual.
There is a third way and that is to check the dealer computer system as this work would have been logged in and you can check this on any Honda dealer computer in the nation.
If you are worried if any damage was done from a loose plug, the only way to tell is to go into each spark plug hole with a scope and take a look.

If the engine is running normally, the plugs didn't cause any damage. Usual dmage from a loose plug can be pretty severe.
