Whimpy horn

What to replace my horn with something that doesn't sound like an mouse going through puberty. Do all car horns work off the same voltage ? Can I just splice the OEM plug to a diff horn?

Yes, pretty much anything electrical in any car runs off 12vdc. So any car horn will work.

You can buy aftermarket louder horns. Its a thing. These horns are not much larger than stock.

Motorcyclists like them, as they want to sound like a much larger vehicle in times of urgency and their stock horns are as wimpy as they come.

Early S2000s came with one horn, I cant remember if it's a high of low tone.

You can add a second tone horn from later years (so you have one high and one low) and the sound will increase substantially. I have an AP1/AP2 horn mix and its more than loud enough.

The horn on my '00 was so weak it was worthless so I replaced it, but did have a bit of an issue as brake lights were on that circuit and it could not handle the new horns. Had to use a relay on the circuit and power the horns separately.

My 2007 came with this horn: UCH-253. Pretty darn loud for OEM. Loudest in work parking lot --- arming and when stupid alarm goes off, by itself.

Look here,

I own a 2001 with that single wimpy horn as well. I highly recommend what Hardtopguy sells, which worked perfectly for our "s". He advertises it as an upgrade for the 2016 Honda Civic which came with a single horn just like our "s" AP1 00-01 years and replaces it with an dual horn setup from 2016 MDX model. It includes an adapter-harness so you can add that additional secondary horn. Sounds very good IMO that make it sound a bit more aggressive with a grunt with just a tap on the steering wheel horn which I think is perfect for the "s". It was an easy and straight-forward install with instructions for $50, it was definitely a nice upgrade that you can't go wrong. I decided these against PIAA's and Hella's in mind.

Do you have to remove the fender to access the stock horn? Does the hardtopguy horn replace the oem horn, or does it add on? thanks
i have a 2001 ap1.

No. It is attached to inner body panel, under the hood.
