Unhappy Whirring noise from the gearbox transmission..

Hey all..
Had this whining sound coming from the gear box lately and i took it to Honda for a service. The cars all fine but the confirmed that the sound is coming from there and they suspect that there is a 'bearing worn'.

Which bearing would it be? The car still drives fine and i can't notice anything diffrent in the gear selector, but there is a sound there and you can hear the gears wind down when coming to a stop.
Has anyone fixed this or has exp this problem??

I plan to remove the transmission myself..
Any help would be much appriciated!

Matt

Nope

Its a bearing inside the gearbox which is proportional to the cars speed, not just on acc or decel..
Anyone worked on our gearboxes before?

well.... i had the same problem....and my tranny shifted and worked 100% fine... no grinding ever and no problems at all. But i got so sick of the damn whirring noise, that i bought a new 2003 tranny. It is from a worn bearing in the tran... if you can take the noise, and dont have the money to fix it right away... dont worry much about it, otherwise fork out the $ , and get a new trans, or have the current one rebuilt. In many cases, it will be less expensive to by a used one on here, or try and find a really good deal on a complete workign tranny, rather than rebuilding. Good luck!

This may be the tailshaft bearing. its in the transmission. I read a thread on this in here somewhere. from what I saw, it looked like a medium hard job to do. IIRC.

I had a feeling it was that as the noise is speed dependant and not rev dependant.. Either way if i wanted it fix the box has to come out.. I think i will wait till i have to do the clutch then ill look at it..
For the time being i'll just put up the stereo a bit..
