Whistle sound immediately at startup 02 129k miles
Hello,
Any ideas as to what this whistle sound is? 02 S2000 129k miles -- It seems to come on immediately and doesn't go away.
Sorry for the crummy picture quality -- fortunately the audio is okay.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Its likely the secondary air injection pump. Its function is to help quickly heat up the catalyst by adding oxygenated air to a very rich exhaust stream.
Does it go away if you rev the car or wait like 20 seconds?

Thanks for the response! The noise does not seem to shut off, either by accelerating the engine or giving it 20 seconds. It seems like its pitch increases with increased engine rpm.
Thanks again.
Thanks again.

Definitely not that. Never heard the air pump ever go that high in pitch.

Did you change anything in the engine recently or did the noise just randomly occur?

Yeah, lets quickly rule out any of the serpentine belt pulleys and accessories. Just temporarily disengage belt, seeif noise goes away. Obviously don't run it long enough to overheat like this since water pump won't be running.
If noise does go away, spin each bearing, see which ones feel crunch, make noise, or have play.
Don't have to remove belt from car. Just hold tensioner loose and slip belt off from crank pulley. Can let it just hang there, if you make sure it stays clear of crank pulley.
