Im all for fabbing and self-done modifications. But what you describes sounds like it should be on the neighbor-boy's 1987 accord. I'd rather stay stock, nothing wrong with that
true

i'm just trying to be "creative", not that i would actually waste my time and money on it.

thought that someone must have tried it, but maybe not.

Actually someone has. This was posted up quite some time ago, so it's hard to find that thread. They essentially did what I had described. We never heard back with any sort of evaluation.

Honestly, it sounds like your opinion of the aftermarket intakes is not based on any kind of experience. I've run the AEM cold air intake and also been in an S2k with the K&N kit. Both yield gains at the bottom end that you can feel and hear. Stock, you can feel the car bog or hesitate off the line. I noticed this with both my 2001 and 2005 S2000. After I installed the intake, it was like night and day. No more bogging, much easier on the launch, and better fuel economy. To me, it's worth the $250 or whatever for the R&D that they have done. I doubt that hooking up a dryer hose will yield such results as the airflow tends to be poor through hoses like that. I have experience with this because we hooked up dryer hosing to a friends supercharged Si temporarily since there was no piping available at the time to draw cold air. On the dyno, it performed poorly. Once we switched it out with mandrel bent piping, it made some noticeable gains (10-15whp). Since it flows so poorly with an FI application, I'd expect it to be worse with our NA setup.
Now if you want to pay almost the same amount as the aem/k&n intake to have piping made for the stock airbox, it may yield better results. But at that point, makes more sense just to get the intake.
It's a $30k car, another $250 on a part with some R&D behind it is not really that much.
