Default Why is the steering so numb?

I love my S2000, but the numb steering is the pits. I'd really like to get great steering feel (like a Lotus 7 or even Elise) even if it means removing the steering assist.

What (if anything) do you know of that might help? Oh, and what are the consequences?

Would adding a hydrolic steering pump decrease hp as it adds parasitic drag on the engine?

One mod that will give a bit more feedback is a 4-point front strut bar. S2x sells one for not too much money. The lower mount point is to the steering rack. So the strut bar transmits vibes from the struts more directly to the rack. It's not a dramatic change, but a bit.

Increase the caster.

This also has the benefit of an easier recovery should your back end get loose.

I don't notice any numbness and I've driven or owned the lotus, RX7, Miata, etc.

Having driven an Elise, Boxster S, '86 911, '91 CRX Si, Miata... I don't know what you mean.

Anyway, except for a drift car that got an RX7 steering rack or something similar, I've never heard of anybody doing anything with the steering on an S2000.

Check that - the CR has a new steering rack stiffener. I think a few people have ordered it from hardtopguy, but I haven't heard much feedback on it.

you can actually swap out the steering rack from the AP1/CR into your AP2. honda changed the gear ratios on the AP2s so turn in and responsiveness is a little bit slower than the AP1/CR.

There is plenty of feedback in the wheel. I've had a number of students complain that they couldn't feel anything. Using a lighter grip on the steering seems to help in most cases. Check your knuckles, if they are white, you are gripping the wheel too hard.

The steering on my S is great. I've driven many cars over the years, albeit most as not as nice as my S. The rack is very responsive, and it moves quickly according to the input that I put into the steering wheel. I'm not saying this because I own an S, I think the steering in my car is pretty darn good.

Increasing the caster will make the steering feel heavier and less responsive, but will give greater straight line stability.
