why is there an extra compartment in the intakebox

Default why is there an extra compartment in the intakebox

when taking the lid off the intake box under the filter there is hole holding a smaller compartment. what purpose does this serve?

noise supression. if you cover it the intake gets a little louder

is that the same function as that wall inside the intake separating the filter?

the wall increases airflow speed, as i understand. not the wall itself, but the small opening leading to the main chamber

but what good is air flow speed through an opening only to be slowed down by a filter? i say take the berlin wall down and make some noise!

The wall at the beginning of the air path is to prevent hydrolock.

it creates an area of high pressure in the fron of the airbox, and lower in the filter compartment... thus the air speed from high pressure zone to low pressure zone increases

at least that's what i think
