I'm in Florida and today it hit about 78*F
My new 11 FJ 4x4 calls for 0W 20 SYN. I have changed the oil at every 5k miles and now have 16,000 miles on the Fj, so far so good The book calls for an oil change every 10k miles I still have a hard time with that

Well I switched to Amsoil 0w-30 and after 3000 miles my TCT is making alot of noise. Can this be related?

My 2012 Ford Explorer is at 7000 miles and the oil life monitor still reads 35%, they no longer give us oil change intervals but want us to go by the OLM, running 5w20. I'm still a bit old school so it is tough for me to go that far on one oil change as it will take me well into the 10k range at this rate. lol.

My opinion is that the TCT issues are unlrelated to oil brands and probably not related to oil viscosity differences. It is such a poorly designed/built part that it fails under a wide variety of conditions, often after only very short use. This is the worst part of the S2k IMO.

I don't think your new Ford is much different than any of the others. Auto companies have always been pretty liberal with thier recs. Dealers on the other hand, will probably recommend a 3-4k change.

If that is the same oil since 0 miles I would dump that ASAP! I changed my start up oil at 5k

Yes, but remember that manufacturers do not want your engine to last forever ... just make it out of the warranty period plus a reasonable amount of time. I set my sights higher than that.

In the S2000, I'm changing about once per year ... works out to about 3,000 - 4,000 miles.

In my Civic, it's twice per year and I time the changes seasonally so I am not laying in a snowbank while attempting to loosen my drain plug and filter. I won't go much over 4,000 miles regardless of OLM.

This is a load of BS. Honda has built it reputation on the worlds best motors. FYI unless you're at the track regularly 3-4K intervals is also a joke. Say whatever you want to justify your position but oil tests will show you 3-4K is very early, once a year maybe not.

Does anyone have evidence to show early motor failure do to bad oil cold starts.

Our last Honda was doing 15K oil changed on M1 EP and at 140K ran strong and burned no oil. My S2000 at 105K burns no oil and runs strong. Dyno'd 214hp. Change oil around 10K and drive it pretty hard on the weekends, and by hard I mean the mountains. Not once or twice into vtec.
