Will 2007 motor work in a 2003 s2000
Ok billman so is that basically a no go on the longblock or is it ok? I'd just be dealing wit a constant CEL. I haven't been able to get in contact with my friend yet and show him what you wrote. And I'm not sure if I'm understanding completely. Thanks.
Basically he's saying you can't use the complete '07 motor without the '07 ECU and wire harness (because the cylinder head is different)...but you can't use the '07 ECU and wire harness because it won't work with the rest of your car (sensor inputs, dash display, wire routing, or whatever).
There might be some Frankenstein possibilities depending on what's damaged in your motor, but realistically the '07 is probably not an option for you.
Did I get that right Bill?

Correct twohoos
Right off the bat, the LONGblock (engine completye with cylinder head) will not work. There are mechanical and electronic differences. The SHORTblock (engine block, crank, rods, pistons, oil pump and chains. NO cylinder head) can be made to work.
you can use the 2007 engine, but not the cylinder head. Your 2003 CAR is not wired for the DBW system. There are many other mechanical parts involved also. I'd imagine a complete LONGBLOCK conversion would be major work and expense. Off the top of my head, Throttle pedal assy, brake system ABS unit, wiring harnesses, VSA switch, ECU, complete intake with DBW throttle body, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.
What happened to your original engine? The cylinder head is usually fine in blown engine cases.
To use the 2007 shortblock engine itself will need some work. all in all not really that hard.
You will need to use these parts off your 2003 engine:
-Cylinder head and camshafts
-intake manifold, injectors, and TB (this stuff is no big deal, just throw your whole intake on there and your done)
-remove timing cover while cylinder head is off, change trigger wheel for CKP (crank position sensor)
-CKP
-valve cover and cam sensors
-knock sensor (i think...check part numbers)
Lastly, keep in mind that running a 2.2L to 9k is a grey area. People have done it with the 2000-2001 ECU (richer mixture) with good results.
I have seen a 2003 ECU score a cylinder running a 2.2L to 9k.
