Default Windshield defroster not working

unfortunately my front defroster is nonoperational. I put the setting to the windshield defrost mode and I can hear some action near the vents (it appears to move) but All air gets redirected to the main vents. No matter what setting i put it to it wont come out the windshield vents. any suggestions on what to do from here?

When you turn on Defrost, it turns on the AC at the same time (unless you did the Modifry mod to disable that). So if AC is off, and you switch it to Defrost, does AC indeed activate automatically?

If it doesn't, then it seems the system doesn't realize Defrost was selected. Sounds like a switch problem. If it does, then it seems like its a duct problem, something mechanical that is preventing duct valve from actuating.

it thinks its functioning normally if i look under the drivers seat it also seems to move. is the only way to get to the ducts is by removing the dash?

this is an uncommon problem based on my search so i wanted to post my solution in case anyone finds this thread. after 3 mechanics looked at it and couldn't find out whats wrong (i thought i was going to have to take apart the whole dash) my audio guy took a peek under the dash by the driver foot well and realized the flap was moving but wasn't turning all the way because it wasn't popped into its gear correctly. 20 mins later after some fiddling. problem fixed.

Thank you so much for coming back with the solution. I'm sure it will be helpful to someome down the road with same problem.

Any more details on what the fiddling involved? How could he tell visually that the gears weren't engaged? What needed to be disassembled to perform the fix?

So i didn't get under there to look. but apparently there's a flap under the dash near the driver side footwell. that goes back and forth to direct airflow. the flap was going back and forth but wasn't swinging around back to go to defrost mode (this was what I was told) its on a gear that rotates and it was off that gear so he popped it back on. apparently i had a control module under there that wasnt secured so it must have knocked it off. Im thankful it was such a simple solution. i was ready to rip the dash apart.
