Default Won't go past 7,000 RMP

Hi All

Not had my S2000 long, so depending on what this problem turns out to be, the car is still under the warranty of the garage. I'd like to try to find out what the problem is, before I take the car back to them.

This problem only seems to happen when the engine is cold, i.e when I take it out for the first time in a day. When accellerating in 1st gear, every now and then, the engine is unable to rev past 7,000rpm.

Putting my foot down further does nothing, it's hard to explain, but the car sounds and feels like it has hit the top of it's rev range, which we know isn't the case.

Changing in to 2nd gear sorts the problem out, and then the car is able to rev up to 9,000 in any further gear changes.

Clearly something isn't right, and I'd like to find out what it is before the car is out of warranty and before the issue gets worse

I found this link

https://www.s2ki.com/stor/library/TSB/a04-073/index.htm

Not sure if this is the solution to the problem or not

Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks all

^^ this.

Why are you mashing on it when the engine is still cold anyways? They put the 7k limiter in there to prevent people from damaging their engines.

ah ok, so what you are saying is that this is normal?

If that's the case, it's a weight off my mind, nothing worse than thinking something is wrong with the engine, it ruins the enjoyment of the car

"why are you mashing on it when the engine is still cold"

LOL at this comment

Good point, however where I live, the road leading up to the main road is perfect for "mashing" the engine. When I get to the main road, it's typical commuter traffic, and its 10 miles an hour to the office from there.
