Default Won't rev to 9k

I vtec often but don't hardly push it to the redline that often. So tonight was the first time in a couple months that I tried and it was a no go. Power died big time right after 8, which I'm used to, but not like this. The power just stopped. I was still accelerating but you could count seconds inbetween the speedometer changing. and then it would rev up to ~8.7 and it would act like it was going as fast as it could and wouldn't go any further at all.

besides this the car has been running perfectly.

I currently only have an Injen intake on the car for the last 10k miles.
just broke 100k miles not too long ago
All maintenance has been taken care of on time by myself and the oil level is checked regularly, including tonight.
My last valve adjustment was about 7k miles ago.

Has anyone heard of this happening? I searched but didn't find anything that pertained. Or does anyone have any ideas/ suggestions that I could try? Thanks

What about the spark plugs? I hope you have the newer plugs after the recall and have them torqued in at the revised 18 lb/ft.
With 100K, have you ever changed the fuel sock?
Air filter good?
How's your MAP sensor? A bad one or a loose wiring harness on one has been blamed for high rpm hesitation. It could also contribute to an inability to rev to redline.
Ever get your fuel pressure checked?

The spark plugs get changed every ~20k miles and yes with the new revisions.

My air filter gets cleaned at every oil change

And I had to replace my map sensor at 85k miles so that wasn't too long ago either.

I never changed the fuel sock. I never even thought of that but seems like a good place to start.

which part is it exactly?

Is it #7 in the diagram part # 17516-S2A-930
or
#1 in the diagram part # 16010-S84-A01

My friend has a map sensor that I can double check mine with so I'll do that before I go for the sock. But then again it only takes a couple seconds anyways.

This one gets my vote. I once had an issue where my car felt like it was pulling a parachute when going above 7K RPMs. Performing the age-old "MAP Whack" solved the problem.

Allright I swapped out the map sensor before work but didn't get a chance to see if it made a difference, I'll try after work, or maybe on my lunch break

Yes, it's part #7 in this:

As for the MAP, it not only the sensor itself, it's the securing system. Did you get the new zip tie harness that now comes with the new MAP sensors. Also you might be interested to know that not all MAP sensors are created equal:

Oh, if any of this doesn't help, check the fuel pressure.

It sounds like something described here: No vtec No CEL.

Maybe it helps.

Wasn't that one related to having a VAFC?

I do have vtec and no vafc soo....

Tonight I swapped the map sensor's and went for a drive. After it warmed up I got on it and it went perfectly. I was thinking this is fantastic so easy compared to the other problems but no not with my luck.

I got on it early in second up to redline and then third up to redline. made a couple turns cruised for a while and then got on it again only to get the same symptoms as I started with.

I went and whacked the map sensor...no luck, swapped it back to the original map sensor...no luck.

My thoughts are that the debrie in the gas tank settled with the car sitting and didn't get stirred up enough to clog the sock. But after I drove a little bit the sock got cloged and started giving me the symptoms again.

xviper: do you think I should check my fuel pressure beforehand just to doublecheck the source, or just go for the sock?

So I will order the sock hoping that is my problem. My main concern now is, is there any way to really CLEAN the tank out so the new sock won't have to put up with crap that's allready in there without going into some major work? I know that replacing the fuel pump isn't that difficult after looking at the CTSC install.
