Wont shift to reverse

Default Wont shift to reverse

When i try to put my car in reverse the stick won't go into gear.....i have to press the clutch a couple times before it goes into reverse.....this also happens to me in 1st gear...the weird thing is that it doesn't happen to any of the other gears....wats wrong?....

try changing your clutch/brake fluid + tranny fluid

okay how often are we supposed to change our clutch n trans fluids?....the manual gives a pretty high number...i live in chicago and i don't drive my s2k in the winter months....so i won't change the fluids until it warms up....but if you guys have any ideas as to what the problem may be let me know i really appreciate it

it's good to do it about once a year for both. clutch fluid with debris or air in the system can cause your clutch to fail to properly disengage making it hard to change gears

The symptoms you describe suggest that your clutch is not fully releasing, a typical cause for difficulty in getting into first and reverse. This problem is typically solved by bleeding the clutch fluid, but since your car is now about 4 years old it's a good idea to change out the fluid. In general, one should change your brake and clutch fluid every 2-3 years independent of mileage since the fluid is hygroscopic. That means it absorbs water over time making it less effective, particularly the brake fluid.

There is a link to these maintenance procedures in the FAQ. Note that it is particularly challenging to effectively purge all of the air out of the clutch system, so be persistent.
