i had a problem with a whining sound coming from the differential when the car was in neutral going at any speed.
jeff from hardtopguy.com told me that it could be the backslash, but my mechanic that installed the gears check everything out and it seems like the inner pinnion bearing is worn out and so are the side bearings, he told me might be from a defective bearing or oil starvation, but it was full of oil when he drain the differential.
so what i'm wondering is if the installation parts taht i bought from hardtopguy came with these bearing and where can i get these bearings from.
If it is bearing failure, sounds like the pinion was set to tight and so were the spanner nuts that hold the LSD races in place.
It is not hard to do even by an experienced mechanic. New bearings can be bought through your Honda dealer.
The pinion is set two ways first, the flange nut torque is set to a minimum of 94 foot pounds. Next, the turning torque is checked to be sure the it does not exceed 12 inch pounds.
If the flange is made to tight the bearings will have a greater amount of preload and will cause premature bearing wear or failure.
This pinion is set with 11 inch pounds of turning torque
thanks for the input, but i'm pretty sure the mechanic is going to say that is not his fault, and i'm going to end up buying the bearings which is about $230 from the dealership, plus labor.
