Default A Word to the Wise

Just wanted to share a recent experience. I replaced the OEM oil pan drain bolt with a magnetic bolt and it came with a hard nylon washer that I used. I was very lucky that I changed my oil when I did....the drain bolt was not much more than finger tight. This is the first time that I have had this problem and it is also the first time that I didn't use the Honda aluminum washer. I always torque the bolt down, so the only answer is that the washer allowed the bolt to work loose.

I forgot that this engine isn't just any old engine. The 9,000 rpms take their toll in many ways. Just be careful.

What type of magnetic drain plug did you use? I purchased the Spoon magnetic drain plugs and it came with aluminum washers.
Thanks for the word of warning.

I found a magnetic drain plug at Pep Boys and it came with the nylon washer. It has the OEM washer on it now. I just checked it several weeks after changing the oil and it hasn't loosened up with the Honda washer.

That should work. I haven't used safety wire since the Air Force in 1966. I still have a roll in the garage, though.
