Smile Wow that was stupid...

I got around to removing the hood insulation today. Any of you that have done that I'm sure are familiar with with plastic clips that hold all of that into the hood. Well I was so gung-ho to save that extra 2lbs or whatever that I didn't bother to think ahead and lay a towel down across the engine or something. So of course not one but two of those plastic clips fell into my engine and of course they didn't come out the bottom.

So know I'm afraid that there's going to be two melted pools of plastic clip in my car somewhere and it's going to drive me nuts. I have no clue how to get it out and I can't even see them. The first fell on the header side of the heat shield and the second fell between the third and fourth tubes off of the intake manifold. Should I absolutely not sleep tonight until I find these things or are you guys will to let it go with just some light flaming online? Is this going to cause potential damage in there? I'm hoping they will just fall out when I drive but I won't know that it happened so I'm still going to go crazy.

I am really mad at myself right now.

I was able to find the clip that dropped past the header, It was lying on top of the final instersection in the header.

The other one is nowhere to be found after getting out the flashlight. And I doesn't look like theres a clear path through the bottom.

So, what's under the intake manifold that won't like melted plastic?

Don't worry about it. There is nothing that it can damage and it will probably fall out when you drive.

I wouldn't loose any sleep over it, and if it makes you feel better when I temporarily took off my hood insulation because I thought it was the reason for my hood not closing when I needed to adjust the hood latch, I broke every one of those clips.

That hood insulation is good stuff, I'd put it back in. It is designed for smothering and putting out a fire under the hood if it ever happens. It may also quiets engine noise a bit but that's not it's main purpose.

Not to hijack the thread but has anyone actually transferred their insulation to a cf hood?

Thanks for telling me what it was for I honestly didn't know and that makes good sense. But I want more engine noise if at all possible and if my car catches fire I'm going to sit in it and burn with it to the ground.

(It's all I've got)

As much as I love my car, if it ever caught on fire, I'd want it to be totalled. I wouldn't care about putting the fire out, because it will never be the same.

The hood insulation is to quiet the engine noise and keep the hood paint from getting too hot.

It does have a flame retardant in it, but it is not for fire insulation (What is a better retardant... aluminum or cloth)! Ask Davepk what happens when your engine catches fire.
