My hood insulation has been out for years. Paint on the hood is fine. I took it out because the insul and it's clips rub the Comptech icebox lid.

If that was truely the case, they would have put that insulation all over the engine bay. Convection heating is the most apparent issue in the engine bay, but it also radiates too.

Get a Airgun, and start spraying. At the very least it will clean out any other junk you have in there.

1)put out engine fire(small of course)

2)protect the paint from cracking(ask any DSM turbo guy, the paint cracked right on top of the turbine

3)noise

keep it, at least for the first two reasons
