I just cahanged my oil, honda dealer gave me filter # 15400-plm-a02. I saw somewhere this is the wrong one, Will this do any harm or will it leak. Should I change it.

I don't think that filter is correct.

People on these boards, who I would tend to trust, recommend the 15400-pcx-004.

Hopefully your dealer will exchange it with the one you have.

The PCX filter is for the S2000 only, the PLM filter is for all other Hondas. Get the dealer to change it. The PML was not designed for the oil pressure that the S2000 runs at, and it is 1/2 smaller then the PCX filter.

 

Could using the PML filter for a large amount of miles cause any damage?

That is what I want to know? I already did the change, It would be a real pain in the a__ to change just the filter.

 

I mean, if you were to use the PML filter for 10 oil changes, approximately 30,000 miles, would it have any longterm negative effects.

PCX filter is very recent filter that Honda recommended for S2000, within the last 2 years or so. The first few years, 2000-2002, the PLM filter was used on all Honda, S2000 included.
If you can change out this PLM filter for PCX filter, it will be better (it will be a mess). If you do not like messy up your garage, leave this PLM filter on for 3K miles will not make your engine explosed to pieces.

 

It really isn't the end of the world to use the PLM filter on the S2000. I used one for my first oil change as a PCX wasn't readily available.

I just wouldn't track it with that filter.

 

Based on the construction of the two filters, the PCX filter can take higher flow rates, which are likely needed when the engine is cold and when you hit VTEC. If flow exceeds the filter's bypass valve pressure, the valve opens up allowing unfiltered oil through the filter. The PLM filter will not do immediate harm to your engine, but it will likely increase the wear on your engine over time compared to the PCX. It's not the end of the world, but if you're anal about caring for your engine (as I am), then you'd consider changing it out.

Changing your filter between oil changes is not a big deal. Yes, you will get some dripping when you unscrew your old filter, but it's not like your oil will drain out of your oilpan. It's no harder to change the oil filter during an oil change. And if you're not planning on spending very much time in the VTEC range, I wouldn't worry about it - just leave it on the car and make sure they have a PCX filter on hand before they start the oil change.
