Thumbs up Zipties?

Hello all,

I have a trip planned out tonight, driving from LA to Nevada,. Last night I changed my oil and when I pulled out the old filter I found this Bearing and spring in my oil filter. This is from my EARLS sandwich adapter for my oil cooler. This bearing is used to regulate the oil pressure between the cooler and engine.

I figured it is a better idea to put the filter on normally, without the adapter to get it fixed, before I use it again.

Here is my dilemma. I have a lot of steel braided lining from the oil cooler, to the adapter. Instead of pulling the whole thing out, I just zip tied (5 times) this adapter(temporarily) to the bracket for the factory air filter.

I know this is jankey sounding, but it is temporary until I can get the adapter fixed. and I have to leave tonight at 4. Here is what I am wondering, Do you think at all, I should worry about the zip ties snapping? The hoses are cleared from anything moving (and so is the adapter) and on a side note, I am not Fi and I dont need this oil cooler to operate properly.

any input would be greatly appreciated!

So in a nut shell, will 5 zip ties have the possibility of snapping under the hood, on a stock car, temporarily? lol (weird, I know)

ehm.. zip ties are plastic. oil cooler lines can get really freaking hot since they have.. hot oil running through them I would suggest you remove the zip ties since they could melt, and replace with a metal screw type brace (I don't know what to call it.. you know, metal loop that you can shrink using a screw driver.. used connect hoses, etc)

Thanks for your reply, these are oil cooler lines that have NO oil going through them currently. Like I said, I took off the sandwich adapter (temporarily) I have them there, because it is about a 2 hour job, just to un-rout the lines and un-mount the cooler. It like having a hose that's not connecting to anything. Just laying loose.

I am just wondering, if the heat that is emitted from the engine, could eventually make the zip ties snap. There is no real weight on the zip ties, for the adapter is made of aluminum.

Once again, thanks for your input!

Zipties are typically made of nylon. These are pretty durable. It would take quite a bit of force to get them to fail. If you're using relatively large zipties, I wouldn't worry about it.

I've had my front license plate ziptied in place for 4 years without any problems. Zipties are used under the hood to bundle wiring harnesses. They can take the temps, but don't let it touch the engine or exhaust.

I've got bajillions of zipties under my hood holding misc. things in place. (vacuum lines, coolant lines, fuel lines, electrical wires, vacuum solenoid, license plate, air horns vortech black boxes etc.) The things are very useful.

If you get up under the car, there are OEM zip ties holding some of the wire harnesses in place. I think you'll be fine if you bought quality ties.

Thanks man, even though I talked a little shit to you the other day. No hard feelings?

I am just nervous, I am driving 400 miles alone, at night. In the middle of the desert. it makes you think twice.

Plus the I smoke, doesnt help at all with the paranoia. lol
