Default 30mpg!!

Greetings:

Hope all had a great holiday and happy new year. My wife and I took our 03 S2K to Monterey and Carmel, California for 3 days and had great time. Got to put top down and drive up highway 1 along pacific ocean!! AWSOME!! Well car ran great BUT I was totally blown away by actually getting 30.0 MPG!! Used 12.5 gallons and went 375 miles!! Is this possible? Has anybody else out there got anything close to this? Certainly none of us considered buying an S2K for good gas mileage but I'm pretty impressed if this is actually real!!

Cheers Steve

I've only put about 2k miles on mine (total of 20k) since I bought it, but I'm amazed at the terrific fuel economy, as I've averaged 26 mpg, and accelerate to the redline somewhat frequently. I gererally cruis on the highway at 75 mph, and I can imagine getting about 29-30 mpg if I went a little slower, or if I was cruising on 50 to 60 mph back roads. The thing I don't get is that my 1995 Miata, which is a 1.8, and weighs significantly less than the s2k, and has smaller and less sticky tires. The gearbox in the Miata has wider ratios, and revs slightly lower on the highway...I only get about 25 mpg in the Miata, and the only mods on that car are 14 degrees advanced timing and thermal exhaust. How does Honda do it????

I've gotten 30 mpg before. I used to get about 26 in mixed driving when the car was new and I babied it. Now I average about 22mpg.

MPG obviously varies the way you drive, terrain, weather, if your engine is "broken in", when you shift, etc, etc. I wasn't trying to get great mileage it just happened. Sounds like others have reached the 30MPG level so looks like it is possible. Who would have thought a high performance car could be fun, fast, reliable, great looking AND get good gas mileage! We are truely lucky to have such a great automobile!!

long live the S2k!!

I've gotten as high as 32. It was highway driving when I went out to Fall Colors, had the cruise set on 74.

Best I've ever gotten was 27.35 mpg (on the way home from Fall Colors in cruise control at 70mph), worst was 17.07. In 7,429 miles I've averaged 21.55 mpg.

I know that there's a 30 mpg capability, but there is simply too much congestion around here to get it.

My best so far was 29 on mostly highway driving. Usually it's more like 22-24 mpg.

I took a trip this summer, I was following my wife in the Accord with 2 kids in the car, so we were averaging 65-70 mph for about 200mi. That tank I got 32mpg with....however, once we got to our destination (Hocking Hills area of southern Ohio) the next tank was 13mpg. Needless to say, the roads in the Hocking Hills area make for spirited driving. My avg. for daily driving is 22-25mpg.
