One of the things on my bucket list is to try some absinthe. I blame my mother for making me read all the classics, like E.A. Poe, when I was a kid. Has anyone here ever tried it? I'm looking for the real thing, with genuine wormwood, not the weak, artificial crap being sold as absinthe nearly everywhere these days.

 

Artificial crap here, Dean. There are several websites where you supposedly can buy it from the overseas suppliers that have the real stuff, but I have never tried to bring it into the country.

Thanks. That's about all I've been able to find, too. I did find the real thing in Europe, but it was about $270 per bottle. I think I'll order myself a couple dozen nice hybrid seeds instead. I was just curious to try the stuff, but not $300 worth of curious. I'll scratch that one off my list and put the money toward a decent, small hydroponics system

 

Yes, I would expect it to be served by pouring it over a sugar cube in the traditional way.
I don't understand why a good absinthe can't be found here. Absinthe has been legal in the US for years.

 

From what I read on-line, it must be thujone-free to sell it in the US. I don't know if that is correct or if it is really a requirement. Thujone is found in plants other than wormwood.

Maybe if we ever get off our arses and have a Dean meet down in Sunny Florida I'll get us a bottle...

 

The U.S. allows up to 10 PPM = 10mg/L of thujone, which is approximately the same concentration found in the pre-ban absinthes.

You'd better hurry if you're coming. I don't have all day.
