Absinthe
I'd be glad to pick up a bottle and send it to you if you like.
Edit: The label on the bottle said Made in France. Here's a picture of the bottle on the shelf:

From what I read on-line, it must be thujone-free to sell it in the US. I don't know if that is correct or if it is really a requirement. Thujone is found in plants other than wormwood.
Maybe if we ever get off our arses and have a Dean meet down in Sunny Florida I'll get us a bottle...

You'd better hurry if you're coming. I don't have all day.

Can you stand some company? If so, how much? I'm not above organizing a party at someone else's house (or nearby hotel as necessary).

Gene, that's extremely generous of you. I followed the link you sent and found a store right here in The Villges that sells it, too. I'm going to have someone pick up a bottle for me tomorrow. Now I just need to find an absinthe glass and absinthe spoon. I'm guessing Walmart doesn't have any.

I'm almost always up for any amount of company. You'd want to make arrangements for lodging at one of the local hotels. My place is way too small. However, I have a very good-sized, bug-free courtyard for a barbecue or whatever.
I'm not sure it is the real thing, Dean. I found this on the site:
Absente was the first legal Absinthe in the U.S. market in 2000, well ahead of any other brand. In 2007, the U.S. government lifted the ban on wormwood with the guideline we had already pioneered with Absente, with a thujone content no greater than 10 parts per million. This allowed us to bring more traditional wormwood absinthe recipes back to the U.S. market (like Grande Absente and Absinthe Ordinaire). All of our absinthes contain a full measure of the legendary botanical wormwood. - See more at: http://www.absente.com/about-absente....v4LeOwda.dpuf
I understand the thujone content in Europe is much higher, up to 30 ppm. This article suggests that the "real thing" is not available anywhere in the world today:

If that article is correct, it sounds like the only mind altering component of any consequence in today's Absinthe is alcohol. Who really knows?

^ If an "absinthe" contains 30 PPM of thujone, that absinthe has been artificially fortified with thujone.
The reputable absinthe distillers in Europe are using original regional recipes, some of which date back to the early 1700s. They are true pre-ban absinthes and do not contain more than 10 PPM thujone.
