Well, I've been using the table you mentioned for a while. Both cars and trailers appear on it, so I have five items to manage.

This reminds me, I need to buy my 2018 fishing licenses. Frickin' government. You have to pay for everything.

Yep, Ohio has had oplates dot com for maybe 20, 10 for sure, years. And they don't care who renews the plates -- I did my wife's all the time. Vision test is required to renew the driver's license but if you can see well enough to walk in the door you're fine.

Just moved to Virginia and was dreading getting a new drivers license and titles and tags for my 3 cars and travel trailer. No fear and no sweat. Local office in Chesterfield has a system where I was routed to an expert who could handle everything in one session. Took a few minutes, of course, but by downloading all the forms first it went smoothly and quickly. Back in Ohio the title office is an entirely separate office run by the county vs the license bureau run (actually franchised) by the state. One stop shopping here in Virginia. Oh, and VA has a permanent trailer tag. One payment and done.

VA has an annual safety inspection requirement that was probably important in 1946 but is now just an extra $16 to the inspection place. Ohio dropped this probably 30 years ago. The inspection is no inconvenience if you have the car dealer serviced like all our cars except the S2000. And nothing like the horrible MOT our kin in the UK are suffering with. Only reason the S2000 took so long for the inspection is the two guys doing the inspection were "car guys" and loved the Medalion Touring exhaust sound.

Here in Sunny California, nine of ten people would rather go to the dentist for a tooth extraction than go to the DMV.

I have nightmarish memories of going to the RMV back in 88.
I'd bought a car late in the year to get the good deal from the dealer who wanted to clear his inventory.
It happened to be the last day of teh year for that the registry would be open.
I also learned that commercials vehicle for small businesses had to renew annually.
the line was hundreds of people deep and took hours.
That was also back in the day was it was not unusual to hear after waiting an hour and forty fives minutes, " you're in the wrong line for that, you need to get into line 3A"
yeah they really sucked back then.
