i'm definitely missing something... every thread in this forum would fit in another forum on the board. it seems to me like elitism and a bit of apathy to put all the posts of people you assume you're going to share a worldview with in one forum.

isn't the point of these boards to learn from each other and entertain each other? isn't the more the merrier? or can you really not stand to have anyone who sees life a bit differently (e.g., through younger and less 'mature' eyes) mucking up your threads!??!

no flame intended, i'm truly curious what the point of this is. i'm in the middle. nobody would ever consider me 'vintage,' i won't be 30 for quite a while, but on the other hand i'm an educated professional who works for a living and doesn't tYpE l1kE thIs on the wizzay to the StriZeet RaceS YO. PinK SlipZ yo!

Not sure how to react to this post...I suppose it was arbitrary to put 40+ as the barometer of "vintage" but we had to start somewhere. That doesn't mean that we aren't open to and welcome ideas from all age groups. I think we've made that clear and gotten quite a few postings already from younger members/guests. If you want to post them, I'm sure we would appreciate your comments (and anyone else's) in the "feedback" thread that Ralper (Rob) started a couple of days ago.

I certainly don't think apathy was a motivation for starting this forum! On the contrary, it seems to have been received with enthusiasm by the vast majority of posters so far. So I think we are doing something right. That doesn't mean we aren't open to making changes if they are justified and supported. This is a new forum and we are charting new territory in a way.

I am concerned that you view us as elitist. I would be interested in comments on this. Anyone?

I too am quite concerned that you view this forum as elitist. Deb (MsPerky) and I tried to make it clear from the beginning that this forum was open to everyone, young and older, to share ideas, thoughts and discussions. We also tried to make it clear that within this forum flames, insults, personal attacks, slurs and offensive language and the offensive use of language would not be tolerated. We wanted to create a place where discussions could be held and ideas shared on a higher, perhaps more mature level. I think this has been the case and this forum seems to be developing nicely. I think this forum has been an overwhelming success.

The only restriction that was imposed is that on being classified as "Vintage". We made the threshold 40 years of age and older. We think that this is proper as there has to be some threshold. If there is none, and the classification becomes available to everyone, than the classification loses its meaning. If everyone is "Vintage", no one is "Vintage" and "Vintage" means nothing.

I think if you take a moment to read Deb's reply, my reply and look at the response of others throughout this forum you will develop a better understanding of what this forum is about, and why it is such a nice place to be.

schwett,

I think Deb and Rob replied perfectly. In fact, you may note the "mature tone" of their reply. Can you imagine how this thread would have evolved in some of the other forums? It surely would have ended up with name calling.

If I understand the "rules" correctly, you can post here any time you want. And you are correct, what we're trying to avoid is the type of post you made fun of in your last line. And the posts about how I "outran the cops", etc. No one is generalizing and saying all 20 and 30-something S2000 owners are like that. We just want a small corner available to "the old farts" to discuss things.

I just dug this thread up and it's just five days short of two years-old.

I'm happy to see that in the past two years, the Vintage Forum has become what it was intended to be.

Wow, this is an oldie, Patty. Thanks for bringing it back! It has been a pretty nice two years. Some of the posts above are funny. Interesting to note where these peeps are now. I don't know about the original poster or a couple of others - but Quikie has sold her car.

The original poster hasn't posted in 9 months. Aw, too bad.
