While raising the kids and moving 15 times in 29 years, our mode was lean/light and sturdy and disposable. +1 went along with this but asked when we finally settled somewhere she wanted her way when it came to furniture and decorating. I think I owed that to her. Our house is walnut antiques throughout plus several items of antique oak and some highly selective Heriz, Kirman and Ishfahan carpets. Former tile floors have been replaced by hardwood floors, the bathrooms have been totally rennovated and floors tiled, the kitchen has been 100% redone, and the remaining carpeting has been replaced . All the wallpaper except for one bathroom is gone, and the walls have all been repainted in 3 shades of what she calls "latte." We're on 4 levels with three of them being window walls with zero window treatments to maximize daylight and our view of Lake Erie and 9 islands. If it makes her happy, then ...........

Except for the basement and garage....those are my spots.
In fact when I was building the home theater, I painted the ceiling black...she came down, took one look and left. Now that it is done though...she is okay with it since it really helps for the theater feel...
