"Not the kind of place where this happens." Except that it happens everywhere now.

I have family not all that far from there.
In one event they almost matched the numbers of murders in Maine for last year.
Shooter looked to be late 30's, early 40's.
Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot???

As of Thursday, 5:30am PDT... still haven't found the Robert Card. Think he may have shot himself, somewhere?
BTW... I guess Maine is not a "red flag" warning state, for mental illness & gun ownership.

It is happening all over the world now too. Which is not a surprise to be honest. Some stabbings, some shootings, but the main point is that the mental health of humans is not going in a good direction and violence is increasing. Of course the whole world is about to break out in war too so there is that. I honestly do not know how we solve the issues and the increasing violence we are seeing but if we do not we are not going to last much longer I fear. I know that is a lot of doom and gloom, but when the human race seems to just have less and less care for human life and more and more hate for each other it is hard to see much light at the end of that tunnel And the worst is that it is younger and younger people becoming violent these days. Higher rates of suicide, higher rates of violence against each other, etc. It is very apparent we are not bringing up our younger generations in a way that is healthy for them. It is scary as hell.

Deer hunting is a right of passage. My uncle had a buck mounted on the wall of the living room right above the gun rack.
He was not unusual.
I heard reported that Card was military reservist and a firearms instructor.
As for the mental health situation, I know it is awful and well understaffed in Massachusetts. I can't begin to imagine how bad it is in Maine.
The culture leans towards the robust standalone, self-reliant model as an ideal. That doesn't jive well with mental health.
