I did not see any reference to socialism.

So, here is a real world situation, perhaps it will make the national news, it is getting scrutiny around here. I will copy what the teacher posted to Facebook. This is the High School that my wife works at. I know the principal and I am familiar with how this case has evolved from the beginning. The post is accurate. The school itself was set against district's decision to not expel this student. That student has a free ride scholarship to a big Southern California University and the board did not want to screw that up IAW the wishes of the parents and their lawyer. This is a well documented case. Red flags all over the place.

So, what would the national discussion be if (perhaps when is a better word) this student shoots things up a la Florida? Takes out said teacher? Gun problem or personal problem? School problem? District problem. Sure as hell has become a problem for the teacher who just left the school. The school is Oak Ridge High School in El Dorado Hills CA.

WARNING sharing ** ALL** the details of what happened to me this school year

***********************************************
As a high school math teacher at Oak Ridge high school, I am outraged at how the district has treated violent threats at our school. Yes at oak ridge.

In November my life was threatened by a student. Students and parents anonymously turned in the threats . . .

I want to beat her up.

I’m going to f*@#ing kill her!

I’m going to shoot her and the whole school.

These comments were reported by students.

Later that day, in a group chat, a student questioned his intent when he said he was going to shoot me as some of the others in class might of heard the threat as well. Instead of backing down, he reiterated the threat and indicated he hoped they would see what would happen.

That day the school and sheriff investigated the threats and found them to be credible.

The sheriff found guns in their house. Found that he had brought a pellet gun to school in his car and was showing it off to other students as a real gun. They found that he had said lots of disturbing things, like the Las Vegas shooter did it right.

The student was arrested that day and remained in custody for 4 weeks.

I cannot even describe how traumatic this has been to me and my family. My husband testified on my behalf in three different hearings in the court case.

The student plead guilty to two criminal charges. I have a stay away order against this student which is essentially a restraining order for minors.

He was eventually released on house arrest and is monitored by an ankle bracelet.

The fear and anguish we have lived with for the past three months has been overwhelming and all consuming. Our children don’t understand what is going on but they have seen the emotional turmoil and the effect on our household.

Everyone told us that he should easily be expelled for this.

The expulsion hearing was the day after the horrific high school shooting in Parkland, Florida. After hearing all this information, The district’s expulsion panel decided to NOT EXPEL HIM.

It’s unfathomable to me.

They did not kick him out of the district, instead gave him the choice of where to go to school. He decided to stay at the continuation school to finish out his senior year - so that it would look better for his college applications.

Yes. You read that correctly. Not only is he not expelled, he may continue on to college and may get the opportunity to participate in college athletics, as if nothing ever happened.

I’m sharing this because I’m outraged at the district’s decision. If this behavior isn’t grounds for expulsion, then what is? Why are they not choosing to protect the thousands of students in the district and hundreds of teachers?

I’m also sharing this because this community needs to be aware that this is happening. We can’t be naive in thinking it won’t happen here. There has been a complete lack of communication that this type of event has even happened at orhs.

In my opinion, there should be a no tolerance policy with this type of behavior, violent threats against innocent people. In this era, it can not be taken lightly.

Two of the three middle schools - pleasant valley and marina middle school have experienced violent threats in the month of February.

All four high schools in the district have had recent violent threats as well.

The school board has a meeting this Tuesday at Ponderosa High school at 6:30 pm. Please join us in and let it be known that this type of behavior can not be tolerated here.

**please share this with our community

He is a self proclaimed Democratic Socialist. And he also supports gun ownership and the second amendment. No one currently in the house or senate wants to turn this country into a socialist dictatorship ok? I'm a gun owner and a self proclaimed independent Liberal, point being, there is plenty of room for navigating what's necessary for the times, without labeling and creating division and ineffectiveness towards what should be considered appropriate for 2018 issues. I get that a lot of people fear change, but you know what, that's just life. Not moving is more damaging. We need to have fresh eyes on things here to move smoothly into the future, that goes for any issue plaguing this country, not just the current discussion on guns.

Re read his post, it was conveniently slipped in there towards the end after "Democrat" why I don't know, I guess somewhere along the line that meant your a Socialist and then naturally for some that means you hate freedom if you believe in having government safety nets in place to care for its citizens who get left behind in the wealthiest country in the world . But back on topic....

...as far as the rest of your post, that is disturbing and sounds like a lot of parallels to this current situation that brought on the Florida shooting. Something more clearly needs to be done, its a system failure in the making.. and lets hope this kid doesn't get a hold of an AR and a bag full of high capacity mags and go have a field day.

Sorry, don't have anything to add or subtract, from or to the shootings subject.

OT: Cosmo, that is one awesome shot of a pair of A7E jets. Is "410" in this photo?

Thanks!

I don't think you understood my post. If you did, then you are intentionally mischaracterizing it.

Am I? Forgive me if I am. It was my understanding based on your remarks that it would take a Democrat/"Socialist" to make changes to the gun laws, because I guess Democrat/"Socialist" are the ones who hate guns and freedom? Or did you mean that Democrat/"Socialist" are the only reasonable ones who will make the appropriate changes to better the situation in this country? In my view, this has nothing to do with political party, at least it shouldn't. But you know, programming.... and then who is putting money in certain congress members wallets.

No, I'm simply pointing out the reality of the function of the Supreme Court of the US and how its make-up can be changed in order to obtain judicial support for new laws. It is a very long process and often takes generations to change. Currently, you would need a Democrat or other left leaning president (I know you don't like the word Socialist now and will try not to infuriate you further) in order to appoint a liberal judge to the SC in place of one of the current conservative members if you wanted to effect the outcome of the court's analysis of a new gun restriction. I'm also talking about previous decisions of the Supreme Court which are used to try to determine what factors the court will consider when analyzing a claim that a law or act of government is unconstitutional. I am applying those decisions to the potential changes in gun laws that would restrict what guns would be available to buy or own. I have provided my analysis based on those earlier decisions regarding what I think might happen to some of the potential laws if and when they are challenged. I don't believe I have expressed a personal opinion either for or against ownership of automatic weapons or changing the gun laws, other than in the context of what would be an effective method to stop school shootings.

Never the less, I think our discussion has reached an end.

Ok, I apologize for my posts in this thread. The thread was allowed to remain in Main Vintage too long, and there is maybe never was any legitimate reason to leave it here as a experiment in what might have been. The thread belongs in Politics, so let’s continue the discussion there without prejudice. Post away...
