If there are any other vintage roadies here that would be interested in doing some rides in the bay area / Napa/ Sonoma/ Solano/Sacramento or Tahoe areas let me know. I typically like 30-40 mile rides and go about 18-20MPH on the flats with no wind. I'll do longer rides once in a while.
If you are not local but want to get into some tech discussion regarding roadbikes I'd be game for that too.
I don't ride much (ever) anymore but I used to do 20 miles in the area here for exercise. It's fun, when some loser doesn't throw a screw driver at you. (Yes, it happened.) My husband and I still have our cool bikes, but with bad lower backs, they just don't agree, (the bike and back that is). Just didn't want your post to sit there all alone.
I have had my share of things thrown at me over the years and I have been run off the road a few times but not so much since I moved to Northern California 12 years ago.
One time, at a charity ride in Florida some guys in a Pickup threw a bag of marbles and tacks in front of a pack of cyclists. Bad news is that they got away because everyone was struggling to survive and no one got a plate number.
These days I try to pick routes with least exposure to traffic and this area seems largely bicycle friendly. It is more fun and safer with company but I have a hard time finding anyone willing to ride more than 15 - 20 miles.
Well, if I need some expert advice in regards to biking, I will let you know. My bike has been sitting in my storage as there aren't too much provision for cyclist here in Washington D.C. area. When I was in Germany, it was fantastic with legitimate bike routes but not so much here unfortunately.
