It is still a real puzzle. We have had carpenter bees in our neighborhood wooden mailbox frame for years. We try to plug their holes each fall. But until they nest you always see them. Heck they attack people getting their mail. I've never seen any evidence of bees in my garage or around it.

Woodworm is a new one for me but there no evidence of any bore holes anywhere I can see. Not a one.

Carpenter ants would seem like the best guess but none of the wood in my garage is old or damp and I never see them. The garage is 31 years old and the cold storage attached to it is 22 years old. So there is no old decaying wood.

I am going to have the roof blow off this week. We have non-stop branches, etc. that fall on it, so that's an annual thing. Maybe something will come out of doing that. My guess is wood above (2x4s or other) is getting munched on by some insect.
