Appliance problems?
I've had some bad appliance problems lately. The worst was a malfunctioning fridge down the cape this past weekend. I couldn't even find a guy to answer my calls, let alone come out and look at it. So I went on line and found a great forum for appliance repair. I didn't even have to post my particular problem as it was fully addressed in a sticky thread at the top of the forum for my refrigerator manufacturer. The site will give you advice and a link to a warehouse company that sells the part. The two are probably related somehow, but the price of the part I bought was very low compared to other sources.
Anyway, here is the link:

It seems the forum mods are actual appliance repair people that help you out with your problems. A great resource IMHO.

I'm bookmarking it. I've saved quite a bit over the years doing my own repairs. Last year I replaced the timer on our washing machine and the heating element on our stove - saved maybe $300. In previous years, I had done some refrigerator work. This year, I've only needed to fix the dryer door. In all cases, there was an online resource to help me. This one looks like a very good one.

It's helps to marry a good woman. My wife was telling me we had some bugs in the basement that she'd been spraying the past couple days. As you can imagine I haven't been down there in over a month, so I ventured down. I didn't see any more bugs but I did see my sump pump pit was full of water. Sure enough, my pump had stopped working. Rain water normally is not a issue however our laundry washer empties into it . . . no pump, no clean clothes. I explained to her how it all worked and supervised while she dismantled it, loaded it in the truck, and picked up a replacement. Since it was Labor Day, my son came over with his family. After enjoying a good meal, he and my wife put the new one together and got it working. The added challenge was the new check valve was defective and the store had already closed. So they dismanteled the valve and repaired it with plastic cement. She's always watching "How did they do that" or whatever the show's called. Now she knows sump pumps inside and out.
