AutoX in the S....
I came across THIS THREAD ON ANOTHER WEBSITE about AutoCrossing.
It's really asking why the Boxster/ Cayman do not DO very well in autoX, but NOTE that there is a good bit of chatter (esp on page 1) that praises the S2000's ability. How many times does THAT happen on a
Porsche website....
Anyhow, it raised this POLL question in my mind
How about you....what experience....good/ bad/ or indifferent

I will be starting my 7th season autocrossing the S next month. I have a couple of SCCA National Tour and North East Divisional trophies. In fact, my S had 700 miles on it when I first autocrossed it. I purchased a spare set of wheels for the race tires before I even owned the car. I guess you could say I'm hardcore.

I need to buy a helmet but really can't afford one. Can you help me out Jerry?
Seriously I do think about it from time to time. But I'm also considering playing golf again or fishing. So many things to do, so little free time.

I have been to a few PCA events. The first time we ran the S in a PCA event visitors ran in the last run group. My Co-driver's first run beat the FTD Porche by three seconds so we had a few of the PCA people looking at the car between runs. FTD Porche guy said he really would have felt bad if Jay had been on street tires. We had Komho V700 Victoracers on it that day.
I recall doing it at the Tire Rack course and perhaps a couple others. I didn't enjoy it. Too much like work! Actually my arthritis in my wrist and shoulders hurt too much. The demands are non-stop vs at a full size track where there's time for the body to recover a little. There little doubt that the S2000 is a great Auto-X car.
I was pretty serious a few years ago, but then had an incident that took the wind out of my sails and haven't been back since. I still have the Saner bar and Penske DA shocks on my car, and a light single sitting in my garage.
I think about getting back into it, but just can't seem to get motivated to do it again.

Have been in and out of auto-x several times since the early 60's. There have been times that auto-x was all consuming. Enjoyed some modest success competing with Ford Falcons, Comet Cyclones, big block Merc Cougars & Mustangs, and even a Volvo 142. Favorite auto-x car was a 1970 Boss 302 Mustang (wasn't as quick as the "S", but was easier to drive "with finesse". The "S" is quicker.... the Boss was, well... it was the BOSS). Currently mostly 'out' of auto-x (too much time standing around.... too little time actually driving).
That said, the "S" is an incredible auto-x car! It is in the same class as the Lotus Elan (which was absolutely awesome). It is a serious threat in A Stock. Once I put the CAI and 17" wheels on my AP1, I got chased to "street prepared", where a lot of people have done a whole lot more than intakes and "+1" wheels. The "S" can be competitive in "Street Prepared", but you have got to do everything that everyone else is doing to get there.
Evey now and again, I'll come across an event that is not too far away that isn't going to be too big (local PCA and/or Corvette Clubs that will let an 'outsider' come and play) and go thrash the car. Is great for staying sharp, reminding yourself how good the car is (and where one's own limits are with it), and the 45-70 seconds one is typically on the course has to be the biggest adrenaline rush you can get with your pants on
