Default BCS Thread

So what is the vintage consensus on this year's BCS strangeness:

Parity left the NFL and found a new home in the NCAA?

BCS is two-thirds BS?

LSU does/does not deserve a shot at the national championship?

ditto Ohio State?

Georgia/Oklahoma/Va Tech/Southern Cal/Hawaii/Slippery Rock SHOULE be in the BCS championship game?

We need a +1 championship game?

We need a play-off system?

Who cares...its only a game and this year has been a hoot?

Best bowl matchup this year?

There is no joy in New Jersey,
The mighty Rutgers missed the bowls.

No joy in Columbia, S.C. either. The Old Coach (Spurier) is sitting home during this bowl season. Independence Bowl took Alabama over South Carolina because they are closer and expected to provide a bigger gate.

LSU has more lives than a cat. Oklahoma and USC may be the best teams out there right now. I'm thinking decisions were made based on money. What else is new.

I'm thinking there is not much of a way for the BCS rankings to be influenced by money since they are based on a combination of polls and computer analysis of records, strength of schedule, etc. If you are referring to the selection of opponents for bcs and other bowls (besides the bcs automatics like SEC in the sugar, PAC10 in the rose, etc) then I would say money is definitely a consideration. Those bowl committees don't want half filled stadiums or money losing games.

I agree about OK and USC today. But give the Tigers a month to get healthy and they could return to early season form on defense and late season form on offense...a combination that would put them in that same group. I don't know about Ohio State as they really haven't played anybody at that level yet. But they look pretty good. Time will tell.

There is joy in Virginia. Tech will be playing in the Orange Bowl against Kansas. Tech's game vs Boston on Saturday was a very good game and fun to watch.

^ It was a fun game. The BCS has been controversial from the beginning. The only difference this year is that about five teams are complaining instead of one or two. Definitely a crazy year for the rankings. I really don't have a dog in this hunt. I just like to watch good, exciting football, whatever game it is. We certainly had some of that!

^^ I'm with you, MsP. We watched the game down at Pawley's Island at Louis' Fish Camp (a WONDERFUL place to eat I might add) over a long casual lunch. We hated to leave when we finished eating because the game was so good, so we hung out a loooong time drinking iced tea until we almost died .
