I'm really enjoying the heightened activity at my feeders this fall. I've never seen so many goldfinches, black-capped chickadees and little tufted timouses (titmice???) at the feeders as I have this year. How about your feeder activity? Do you feed a variety of food? I use thistle seed for the finches and chickadees, some sunflower chips for all the birds and a blend with a variety of nuts, seeds, dried fruit, etc. for the cardinals. I the birds.

I have crows as well, but I put corn out on a feeder for the squirrels which keeps the crows off the other feeders. I forgot about the bluebirds. They enjoy the fruity mix, but the woodpeckers eat the sunflower chips and I do not use the suet. I've often thought about it, but it drives the squirrels crazy and they really become pesky if I put out suet.

Im fortunate I have not seen squirrels in quite a while. Although I do like to see them and it gives me something different to potograph out the window.

Believe it or not my biggest problem of animals getting the birdseed is raccoons. We have a ton of them that roam just after dusk.

Ohhhh, I believe you. I have four feeders that are suspended from a metal pole and use a stove-pipe type contraption on the center pole that keeps raccoons and squirrels from getting into the feeders. The raccoons were conducting nightly raids until I got the baffle. HOWEVER, the deer stand at the feeders and chow down day and night. Some nights they get away with several pounds of birdseed.

What do you recommend for chasing sea gulls away. They are crapping all over my dark roof and it looks disgusting. I was having a problem with black birds messing up the mulch and crapping on our patio furniture. They eat berries then dispose of them on our light yellow patio furniture which is difficult to remove. I put some realistic looking toy alligators on the arms of the patio chairs per my landscapers recommendation and they dont bother us anymore. Owls dont work. I cant climb up on a 3 story roof or I would try them there for the sea gulls. BTW my alligators names are Elvis and Jerry Lee.

Stick a bunch of these up on the roof

Hire a roofing contractor to permanantly mount them.
