I've started the adventures in heating.

first, this is skanky old, estimated at around 50K BTU/hr.

and shiny new, closer to 240K BTU/hr.

the old exchangers is about 4" tall,
the new stack will be 7".

notice the number of coils in the old versus the new.

ok so my 2-4 hour project only took 2 days and 4 more trips to the hardware store.
all in all a successful venture

the point of no return

a little nip here and a tuck there...

the best part about sheet metal work is unlike those pesky paper cuts, sheet metal just rips the flesh out of the way.

skanky old vs shiny new

presto it's installed

a little solder here

some more solder up here

27 solder joints, AND NO LEAKS on the first try.

and yeah we have heat again...
of course a smarter person might have done
it in the summer or fall when heat wasn't necessary.

It appears that it was worth it though.
the exhaust temp coming out of the old system barely broke 100°F, the system now has a vent temperature of 148°F.

Very nice! I'm great at calling the people who know how to do the work.

well the 'guys I called to do work" were idiots, and expensive and never actually said what they would do.
They wouldn't quote what I wanted, guess I am way to much of a control freak but I know what I want dammit.
I really did want somebody else to do the work.

I love the pics while you were doing the install. I can hear the conversation.

"Barb, honey, take my picture please, I need to show my S2000 pals what I can do."
