^ It did and it was obvious, once I kept looking at the letters. They are arranged in a circle to connect the letters into words. You can rearrange the letters in the circle to help and it really does trigger combinations you did not realize were there. In this case, the word was casino! Whew...now on to the next level.

my wife plays that. She gets addicted to it as well, especially if she is in a tournament.

I have heard from sources that I trust that doing one particular mental exercise, sudoku for example, does provide some very short term benefit but long term improvement is limited to that exact activity. So if you start doing sudoku puzzles every day, your brain function may improve a little for a short time but you will be better able to solve sudoku puzzles for as long as you keep up regular practice. On the other hand, engaging in a number of different mental exercises does seem to provide long term improvement in general cognition.

I do soduko, cross word puzzles, some more challenging on line solitaire games, reading, and some routines in our senior exercise class that involve cognitive skill. Driving, particularly a manual transmission car, counts too. Put that all together and maybe this is doing me some good. But without a double blind study involving two of me (or preferably more) that would be impossible to determine for sure. And Sandy said one of me is all she can deal with.
I had to look twice to see who posted this. Mike? Is this really you?? Everything you said was correct! Well whaddaya know!!

All I can add is that the type of exercises that keep the mind working right are more complex than puzzles. Try learning a new language for example. Especially if you only know one. If you know several, then pick a different subject. Make your brain work at remembering things you don’t know now.

^ Wow...msperky is my name. What else? I am only at level 524. But I play quickly most of the time, so it moves quite a bit. Each puzzle is one level. Just started about a week ago. I won the first phase of the tournament and got a silver crown. Now they have started a second phase after a break. I am in third place, or at least I was until I left for awhile this AM. But there is no chance I will catch up to the two leaders. Both are about 1000 points ahead of me. So I may get a gold crown but it won't be by winning. Unless both of them quit altogether for some reason.
