Call from the doc...need to see you before year end
Rick's primary doc has my cell number. I got a call from them today advising that he (Rick) needed to go in for an office visit before year end. His BP has been on the higher side and they needed him to come in before year end so they could report to the insurance company that the issue was being monitored. The secretary said she received an email from med services (in the practice) advising her to call.
WTH??? I really didn't buy the story, but I'll spare you the why.
The only day they offered was on 12/26. I took the appointment, told the very nice secretary that I'd call her if he could not make it. I called him and he said he wasn't going in on 12/26 as he was working. I called and made an appt for 1/6/15 and the secretary said she would email medical services that he would be in after the holidays.
Something was really stinking here. While we realize the importance of monitoring an issue this was just weird. I asked Rick if he wanted me to check with Blue Cross which I did. They advised there is no reporting expected regarding this issue. Rick is not taking any meds that need to be pre-authorized, so the rep said there is no mandatory appointment. The rep offered to call the doctor's office to find out what was going on. I declined, but truth is I would not mind ruffling their feathers.
Something tells me this large practice may have been reviewing records and decided to try to fill some empty appointments the day after Christmas. Rick just had a appointment with the nurse less than a month ago. If she was concerned about his BP she should have advised him then.
At the end of the day (at Rick's request) I sent an email to the practice. I told them he (well me) had checked with the insurance company and there was no reporting needed that he would monitor his BP at home and call them if he wanted to schedule an appointment and to cancel the appointment on 1/6.
Have any of you EVER run into this? Had the doc called and said he reviewed records and wanted Rick to come in, we may not have questioned it. Stating this visit was required by the insurance company appears to be TOTAL BS. It really is all about the money.

but no-ooo surgery will be Jan 2

My sister, a nurse at an endoscopy center, has been working extra hours as folks are just lining up to be scoped.
Having met a deductible is a great incentive to get a scope exam.
Sorry about the next surgery, Jerry.
