Does anyone have any experience with these USB turntables? How was the quality of the digital recording?
Actually, I do. I have about 800 LPs, but I was rarely playing them on the microprocessor controlled Denon turntable that I brought back from Japan many years ago. It has a Shure V15 cartridge. By burning some of them to CD I am listening to them again. My LPs are in excellent shape since I have always treated them carefully.
The result of these transfers sound good to me, but remember that at 78 I have some presbyacusis. I have a pretty good rolloff after 12kHz and I bet I am some 10 to 20 dB down at the lower frequencies.
My feeling is that those folks that us the Ion and tranfer the LPs to MP3 will do fine. If you have young ears and are interested in really good sound use some of the other techniques talked about in this thread.
My Dad has a bunch of old LP's (the bigger ones) no comments on my lack of technical terms. He wants to be able to copy the on to the computer so he can burn them to a CD.
Here ya go, Shelley -- get him one of these. That'll keep him occupied enough to forget the CD thing. HPH
Oh! I thought is was one of the various Protestant churches, like the one my parents went to when I was kid. Their singing of hymns seemed pretty tone-deaf to me. HPH
