Default Can she win?

Do you think Danica can win Indy? Do you think it would be good for the sport?

I hope she can, and I think it would be very good for the sport. What do you think?

Concise answers:

#1 - Yes she could win. Good team, good car.
#2 - Maybe. The CART/IRL thing is way too complex to be able to tell if a woman winning the 500 will have any lasting effect.
#3 (Not asked) She needs someone to dress her. The clothes she wears on Spike TV are horrible and unflattering.

I read an article today about whether or not she's the real deal or just a flash in the pan. Several drivers commented that when she's around or in the car, they can see in her eyes that she is incredibly focused, the type of concentration you only see in the best drivers. She has top-notch equipment and support, and while that counts for a lot, it still comes down to whether or not she's a "racer". I happen to think she is.

There were also several comments that the save she made on that first qualifying lap was something many regular drivers wouldn't have been able to do, and most would probably have stuffed it. I think that garnered her a lot of respect in the garage.

I think she has a decent shot of winning the race, if she can pace herself and stay out of trouble. She would have had the pole except for that bobble, and that alone would have dramatically increased the attention on the race. If she does win, I think the effects will be more long lasting than many believe. No woman has done this before in a major series; winning the Indy 500 would be huge.

Jeff, I totally agree with you about her appearance. She (or better yet Rahal) needs to hire a professional to work on her appearance in public. Remeber, she went alone to Europe at age 16 and was on her own there for several years. Having had two daughters myself, I know this is a critical time for young ladies and if she missed out on the normal family guidance that would occur, she may have little or no idea what is "right" for a professional driver appearing in public. The clothing and makeup she wears now when I see her on TV is terrible, and definitely unprofessional. It makes her look like a typical teenager, which is not the portrayal she should be making.

Whew, guess I got kinda windy...

Tom

I too think she can win, but I don't think she will. I think the one factor, that of experience, is missing. I do think she is a winner in a season or two, but not yet.

I also think that she will have a great deal of impact on the sport, especially if she starts to win. I think it will be lasting and long term.

As for her appearance, I do agree, she could use some help in her wardrobe and makeup selections, but in the times that I've seen her on TV she has been incredibly poised and not intimidated. I think she'll do just fine, again especially if she wins.

When I read the subject I expected it to be about the Clinton.

Danica has an excellent chance of winning. Numerous knowledgeable insiders have said she is the real deal. Had she warmed up her tires a little better before the first lap of qualifying she would be on the pole. As it was she made a wonderful recovery. From her starting position she should be able to stay out of trouble from most of the field. She has both the desire and the talent and has proven she can handle a lot of pressure both on and off the track. A little luck never hurts either; especially Indy. As for the mini-skirts and such . . . you guys are just a bunch of old foggies.

^ I thought Hillary, too...

As for Danica, it would be cool if she does win. According to a piece I saw on her, lots of guys in that oh-so-important 18-29 demographic have defected to NASCAR (you can chime in anytime, Carmen...and where is Marco??). Sponsors are hoping she brings them back!!

Showing skin will do it everytime! I was referring, of course, to a nice complexion.
