It depends on who's talking whether I tell them I can't hear them or laugh and hope it's not a question. I have done both.

Just last night my son called me on his cell phone, while he's driving and I can never understand him. I get sick of it and he gets mad at me. I wish he'd call when he's sitting still and call my land line instead of my cell. Even when I'm with him sometimes I can't understand him.

None of the above.

I am undoubtedly losing hearing acuity (or whatever it's called for ears), as my paternal lineage wound up deaf as stumps in their later years, and they weren't part of the rock-n-roll generation whose first priority in college was buying big amplifiers and speakers, and making the furniture dance.

What I do is to apply context: if I'm interested, I listen harder and (if appropriate) ask gently for a repeat. If I'm not interested I don't worry about not having heard it. The blissful ignorance approach.

By the way: are there any Jeep Wrangler owners here? I'm thinking of trading my (very sporty due to mods) sports sedan for a 2-door JK. I've always wanted one at some level and, hell, who cares if I can blow BMWs away? Been there, done that. HPH

PS: That pie chart reminds me: I'll put up a long post in the jokes thread.

None of the above really. I have noticed that both Rick and I respond inappropriately to comments/questions. Sometimes I to something I heard, only to realize I didn't hear what I thought I did.

I've missed a few of the "calls" in the aerobics class I'm attending, but since just about everyone there is my age or older, I'm not alone. We just laugh when we go in the wrong direction because we didn't hear the instructor's instruction.

What did she say????

Hey, he just called and it was on my land line and I heard him 80% of the time. Going to go see him tomorrow. Seems the Lemon Festival in Goleta, the town he lives sells lemon . He liked it last year so we'll be going there tomorrow.

That sounds like fun! Buy some Meyer lemons if you can. Also lemon oil!
