Captain Kangaroo is dead.
Bob Keeshan, better known as Captain Kangaroo, died today at his home in Vermont. His show, Captain Kangaroo, was on network tv from 1955 until 1985. In 1985 it moved to the Public Broadcasting System for another 6 years.
I didn't watch the show much, I prefered "Sky King" and "Gumby", but the show was very popular and entertained quite a number of children over the years.
Do you remember Captain Kangaroo? DId you watch it? What were your favorite Saturday morning T.V. shows?

I was a big fan of Saturday am TV....starting with 'Covered Wagon Theater' at 8 am. I seem to remember watching the Test Patterns ###@@@***%%%~~~ for several minutes before the station sign-on
Of course, there was no such thing as 24 hour/day broadcasting back in ~1952 or so when our family first got TV****This MUNTZ b&w TV was a BEQUEST from an elderly friend of my father. See 'Why Do Men Die First' and sequel for additional information

I miss Captain Kangaroo already. He had a wonderful way with children, quite like Mr. Rogers, but not nearly so much of a weanie. The Characters: Mr. Moose was awesome, always with the ping pong balls... Bunny Rabbit eating too many carrots...Mr. Greenjeans and Dancing Bear and the Tom Terrific show (remember the bad guy, Crabby Appleton?). I remember the art projects, always cutting out cardboard with scissors, and the other recurring songs and spots like Thumblina...Probably couldn't be a success in this high paced world, but it was magic in the '60's.
