Changes coming
This morning I signed the order for 18 Low E Anderson 400 series windows. I still have another 9 smaller windows to order.
So sometime this fall we start with installation.
Hopefully in the first week of Sept we will be replacing the 4 zones of 31 yr old HVAC with a Trane Heat pump system.
Rebates make the cost upper to heat pumps basically free. And 0% interest loans make it more enticing as well. still a big slug of money though.
The Oil heat will remain but as backup for when it gets real cold.
And sometime this fall, schedule TBD we are having the roof sprayed with insulation then fireproofing.
Also during the fall we are updating the soffit vent system.
This is because we have two air handlers in unconditioned space also known as the attic.
I hope and anticipate that last year will be the last year we go through 3500 gallons of home heating oil.

We are looking at window replacement as well, have a call into Anderson and Pella, should be out soon You went with the 400 vs. the composite, what was the deciding factor?
Redid heat about (baseboard/boiler) with a Buderus high-E about 8 tears back. getting rid of oil heat saved us a fortune vs. gas.

I have done windows and the oil/gas conversion in a previous home. I used Anderson for the windows. I remember a huge oil tank in the basement. Had to empty it, then cut it apart to take it out of there. Ran a gas line to the street. Also refinished wood floors in that house. It was an old stone house from 1938 and probably my favorite in terms of the house itself. Had a slate roof and copper gutters. Don't make 'em like that anymore. Did a well to county water conversion there, too. Big bucks for all that!! But made a lot of money when we sold it to move to the lake house, which was my favorite in terms of the yard (waterfront).

Don't forget the generator, Jerry!
We've done the windows, and replaced the furnace with one that is supposed to be 90% efficient. We switched from oil to gas, already had gas coming into the home. The heating cost dropped quite a bit with gas vs oil. Our renovations were on a much smaller scale than yours; I think our house fits into yours about five times.
We have city water, but no option for city sewage at this time. That's an expensive connection if/when they do come around.

Ken,
We have stained wood interior. we can get pine interior on the 400 series.
We replaced the tall double casement windows in our kitchen with the 400 series and loved them.
My wife is not thrilled that we now have another 18 windows to stain and varnish.
It's a new construction window. We have RIVCO windows currently.
I despise them, They are garbage. The company went out of business and you can't get parts.
They are nowhere near airtight. On a windy day I have seen curtains move.
We have another dozen windows in ancillary rooms, they won't be replaced right away.
Can only chew on so much at once.
And another 8 or so in the basement and garage we likely won't replace.

21 years ago when we moved in it was 0.89 a gallon.

Ten years ago we replaced all 15 windows, Renewal by Anderson, with the best they make - I don't recall the number but they were 100% composite material and the best they sell. This is from my notes at the time: " Renewal by Andersen windows are their very best windows. Renewals are custom made with 100% composite material and only sold and installed through Andersen corporation. Anderson 400 series Woodright windows available to outside contractors are similar, except they are a hybrid window of composite outside and wood inside and available only in standard sizes; other style windows would be wood-vinyl."
10 years later they are still like new. Easy to clean, open, etc. Did we save enough in utilities to pay for the them - hell no but wife's happy.

My heating costs are $75.00 a month on budget billing (paid over a 12-month spread) , natural gas heating with an older high-efficiency furnace , and smaller home size (2k sq. ft). I think I have 13 windows in total on the entire house, all vinyl , relatively newer design.
