There is a reason that Ai centers are being built next to power plants.
They don't want that pesky power grid causing interruptions.
And we're not talking about little 5 acre solar arrays.
We're talking about several hundred megawatt nuke plants.
At one point I read about the sales projections for Nvidia chips times the power draw of each chip.
500,000 chips x 700 watts per chip. instantaneous power is 350,000,000 watts,
Times 365 days times 24 hours is 3,066,000,000 khw hours.

of course that ignores the rest of the supporting system and the plant HVAC demands.
So might be able to double that number.

I know that Musk has an AI facility.

Elon Musk's xAI facility, which powers the Grok AI model, uses 35 methane gas generators to power its "Colossus" supercomputer in Memphis, Tennessee.
Key facts about Grok's facility and power generation:
  • Location: Historic south Memphis, in a repurposed Electrolux factory.
  • Generators: xAI is using 35 methane gas turbines, significantly more than the 15 generators it initially filed permits for and was approved to use.
  • Power capacity: The 35 gas turbines have a combined generating capacity of 422 megawatts.
  • Environmental concerns: The use of gas generators raises concerns about air pollution in Memphis.
  • Water usage: The facility is estimated to use one million gallons of water per day once fully operational.
  • Reliance on gas generators: Even with Tennessee Valley Authority approving xAI's power request, the company has not committed to turning off its gas turbines.
  • Mobile generators: The generators are housed in movable tractor-trailers, potentially aiming to exploit a loophole allowing temporary operation without permits.

Numbers that make you brain kind of hurt.

.
I read a pretty good article how AI actually is "programmed" into computers. The computers behave like a human brain and the computer system "learns" how to do things and develops its own circuit network just like a human infant brain does learning how to speak and move. The human infant brain takes enormous amounts of energy to perform this function and develop the brain and that is exactly what happens to AI learning for computers. That is the real reason for so much power needs. You are feeding a growing computer brain.

And someday humanity will be sorry!

I think there will be a future right out of a science fiction movie: integration of computer/chips into living humans. Hybrid models if you will. No good outcomes that I can see.

I was in Sam's Club yesterday and I always do the self-checkout. When I walked through the arches upon leaving the man just said go ahead, you're good and didn't look at my receipt. I asked him how he knew. He showed me what he was holding and it was a picture of what was in my basket. The "arches" took a picture and compared it with my receipt (?) but they didn't have my receipt. I don't know how it worked but he said AI said it was okay. It's been that way for months, now. By the way, I was in there to buy something to take to the SAINT picnic and they had 2 lb of beautiful Rainier cherries for $11. They were yummy but I have over a pound left.
