Brant -both you and I have had the good fortune to have been able to travel extensively - I am constantly bemused at the rather *uptight* nature of so many of our fellow Americans...

What I find to be ironic is that many of the most rabid "America First - Screw the Rest of the World" group have never even been out of the U.S. or have any experience with any other cultures.

This is a slightly off topic, but the lifestyles between Europe and N.A. are completely different imo. Europe is much more people/family oriented, while in N.A. it is much more centred around work/career.

I don't think a society of victims has been created, more a material based society...gotta have this, gotta have that or I won't feel like I am successful. This brings on the stress, etc....

dlq04 - I'm always happy to come back to the good 'ol USA. So many Americans have no idea of how good they have it.

I love to travel but haven't found any other country that I would prefer to live in.

As liggy mentioned, I have been blessed to have spent the better part of the first 25 years or so of my life travelling around the globe (extensively in Europe) and being exposed to a variety of cultures and ideas and beliefs. I think that this experience, though not necessarily something I WANTED to be doing initially, has opened my eyes not just to the idea that there ARE differences around the world, but also given me the ability to let go of my own belief structure long enough to develop some understanding of these other ideas/cultures.

Mr. Steelers Fan, I agree with you to an extent. I agree that the cultures in Europe and the US are different, but I am frequently intrigued by just HOW DIFFERENT they are considering they have many of the same roots.
