Does anyone here belong to Classmates.com?

A number of years ago, before the popularity of all of the social networking sites, I ventured into Classmates.com. I found a few high school classmates but in general I was disappointed. I never joined the paid subscription area.

Since then I've been getting weekly e-mails and I can't figure out how to stop them. I find them to be annoying and a bit misleading. Today's e-mail told me that 3 people could have signed my guestbook. Aside from the fact that I didn't even know that I had a guestbook, I wonder if anyone really did sign it. The last time I was told that a classmate had signed on it turned out that this particular person didn't even go to my high school. In any event, to view my guestbook I'd have to pay and subscribe, neither of which I care to do.

So I wonder, does anyone here belong to Classmates.com? What do you think of it?

Never joined. No real desire to connect with people I went to school with.

Funny you mention the email notifications. I do use facebook and thought I had email notifications set to "no thanks" but a few found their way to me.

I get them too, Rob. I just delete them. I think they spam everybody.

Don't get me wrong: I liked many of the people I went to high school with, we had some laughs, but if I've been out of touch for 40 years, it's not likely we'll connect now.

I think that Facebook, et al, has hurt them, since they are a pay site, so they spam everyone who has ever registered, hoping to get you to join. I get the same irritating e-mails as well, and honestly, I now have nothing in common with any of my high-school classmates.

I set my e-mail filter to consider anything from Classmate as spam. I did it at my internet provider so I see nothing from them anymore.

I just went back to today's e-mail to see if there was a way to unsubscribe. I found a button marked "unsubscribe" and I clicked on it. It took me to their webpage for unsubscribing and there was another button marked "unsubscribe". I clicked on it and I got an error with the message that my membership has already been deleted. Because I don't exist I can't unsubscribe, so the question remains, how do I stop the e-mails?

It's not really that big of a deal to delete them, but I wish they would stop.

That's not a bad idea. I might just mark them as junk and have them go into my junk mailbox.

ralpher,

As quoted, the easiest way is to set a Filter in place that recognizes the word "Classmates" either in the Subject, body, from or To lines. This should allow you to have these emails sent directly to the Trash can. I do this to all of the RX (meds) Spams.

Cheers,
EagleDon

Actually, the biggest annoyance isn't the computer. I can always send the e-mails to the junk box. I hate the fact that I get all of this spam on my Blackberry.

I've come to rely very heavily on my Blackberry but the e-mail box (both my personal and professional) seems to get filled with spam every day. I find it bothersome to have to pick through all the spam to get at the few valuable e-mails. Unless I want to delete all of the mail I have to delete them one at a time. Considering the amount of spam I get it becomes a real pain.
