any sale is about qualifying the customer's likelihood to buy.

A local dealer is likely to get guys who come in to play with a toy becuase they're bored and want something to do.
Anybody who drives 2 hrs to see a car is serious about buying.

The local guy should be able to do his homework and sort out the real buyers from the frauds if he wants to sell cars though.
Ok, so you're saying I didn't look like a real buyer. I'm in my 60's. I drive up in an mint S2000 which the same dealership sells in the building next door. I explain how my primary reason for checking out the car is my wife can not ride in the S2000 due to the short wheelbase, extra firm seats, and harsh ride. And, he thinks I'm there for a 'joy ride'. Dah, sorry, but I don't buy it. These were house rules; nothing to do with the salesman. By the way, I made sure he knew that I had a 100 mile over-night test drive in a Porsche and had it worked out better for my wife I damn sure would have bought it. And I wasn't about to buy any car after a 2 minute ride.

There were a BOATLOAD of Vettes on the Spring Carlisle "car corral" on this past Friday. Everything from '55 to almost new.

The Friday nite auction had a good number, too. A '63 split window #matching with 37k on the SOLD for 71k.

OTOH, an '86 "Indy 500" edition ragtop with 26k miles sold for $15.5; and a '65 silver blue (complete rebuild in late 2009) did NOT meet the reserve at last bid of $65k. Similarly, a '64 silver (complete rebuild) went UNSOLD at a last bid of $39k (reserve was $50k). An '07 Z-06 with 123 miles on the bid to $61.5k but did not meet the reserve (no amt mentioned by auctioneer)

There were still 4 more Vettes that came up after I left around 7 pm: '73, '03, '61 and a '68 were on the bid list.

Overall, about 1/2 of the cars ~125 cars on the Friday list seemed to sell....and some folks got excellent deals

I love the car. I have almost 75,000 on her in 4 ½ years. My wife prefers the Vette to our Maxima when we take any of our car trips. She finds the cabin space and seats to be more comfortable. Also I love the 6 speed and ride and performance options.
I have only two issues with the car. First the car is cost of any maintenance / repairs that need to be done which is why I have the extended warrantee good for 100K miles with no deductable. Generally speaking this is called the ‘Vette Tax” For example the computer board that controls the automatic seat return went out. I saw the bill (of which I had to pay $0) was over $2200. One of my front shocks went bad and needed to be replaced. I have the Magnetic suspension so to the cost was a little over $1,000.
Second and this is a self inflicted wound, the convertible top folds into the trunk and takes up about 25% of the useful space. With the top down I can get in 2 roll-aboard or more importantly 1 set of clubs and two duffel bags.
I thought Chevy gave a 100K warranty for all the cars now. Was that just a limited time offer? How much does the 100K warranty cost?

100K is only on the power train not a bumper-to-bumper warrantee. I spent $1700 on the warrantee (which has more than paid for itself). It is a 5 year 100,000 mile Platinum coverage with a $0 deductable. I shopped the Corvette forum for a dealer that would negotiate the price. Found one in Wyoming. Up side was not only did I save about $600 but, since it was an out of state sale I avoided the sales tax of 8.25%.
I have never taken a warrantee on any car but with the amout of electronics on the Vette I felt it was a prudent move.
